Do’s

  • When planning a location for your shoot, try to pick somewhere fun where you & the kids can play together. Places like the beach, forest or park are great as there’s plenty of space to run around & play whilst being a pretty location for the shoot!

  • Bring a drink, snacks, wet wipes… maybe even a change of clothes. Basically be prepared for all eventualities! If you’d like to bring some toys to keep your little one entertained, have a think about ones that will look nicer in the photos. For example, a little wooden train will look much nicer than a big plastic one!

  • Bring a picnic blanket! We can use it to get a nice variety in your photographs by giving you all somewhere dry & comfortable to sit together. Make sure it’s nice enough to be seen in the photos, but not something you’d mind getting a bit dirty if the grounds damp.

  • Most importantly of all, enjoy it! If you’re stressed & flustered during your shoot, you won’t have good memories when looking through your images which means you’ll love them less. Things may not go exactly to plan (that’s kids right?) but laugh it off & enjoy some quality family time!

Don’ts

  • If your children aren’t co-operating don’t get stressed! There’s a reason the phrase “never work with children or animals” is a thing, but I do & have quickly learnt that by relaxing & taking everything in our stride we can laugh it off & soon get the kids laughing too!

  • Don’t wear your fanciest clothes. If you’re worried about them getting dirty throughout the shoot then you’re not going to enjoy the experience and that’ll show in your photos. Remember you’ll be picking up the kids so if their shoes are muddy, your clothes might get dirty too so make sure you’re able to embrace it!

  • Avoid dressing the kids or yourselves in anything with writing/text on it! Even a small logo on a t-shirt can be really distracting in an image & we don’t want anything to take the emphasis off your beautiful family!
